Math and the Human Body Grades 4-8
May 18 (Friday)
Presenter: Elinor W. Semel
Combine your math and science lessons through the activities you will experience in this workshop. Learn how to use the human skeleton for creating a variety of math problems. Students will be excited to discover their height changes during the day, their feet are not identical, not everyone has the same number of bones in their body, that the smallest student in the class may have a greater horsepower than the largest student in the class, why the red blood cell has its unusual shape, and that the number of hairs on a head is related to hair color.
Algebraic and Geometric Understanding Needed for Trigonometry Grades 4-8
May 23 (Wednesday)
Presenter: Karin Rupp
Trigonometry is the integration of algebraic and geometric concepts within the context of number sense. In this workshop we will investigate precisely the algebraic and geometric knowledge required for an introduction to trig; including the algebraic manipulation of geometric formulas, simplifying radical expressions, etc.
