Admissions

Graduate admissions are overseen by the Graduate School. The Graduate Council Policy Manual establishes requirements for admission into each graduate program.

Admission to the PhD program in Environmental Management will be based on a diverse set of criteria. Applicants need to submit the following:

1. Graduate admission application
2. A statement of interest, including a list of faculty members who might serve as the applicant’s potential research advisor and with whom the applicant might have already communicated
3. Official transcripts of undergraduate and graduate work
4. GRE scores; TOEFL scores if necessary
5. Three letters of recommendation from college/university faculty or professional colleagues who can attest to the applicant’s potential for advanced study and research
6. Application fee

The deadline for receipt of all application materials, including assistantship, is March 15 for admission in the following Fall semester and October 15 for Spring semester.

Students will be accepted into the program from a wide range of undergraduate/graduate majors in the natural and social sciences. Expertise and background gained through current or past employment will be considered in evaluating potential incoming students. The specific prerequisite requirements are determined by the program of study developed by the student in consultation with the faculty advisor and dissertation research committee (once convened) and will be based on the student’s research interests, course requirements and overall background. Students must have an undergraduate degree from an accredited institution with an undergraduate grade point average of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale and/or a graduate (Masters) grade point average of 3.3 or higher. Ultimate requirements, in terms of courses, curriculum and credit load will be based in part upon previous educational degrees and programs.
