- NASA-sponsored Graduate Student opportunities. The project entitled A new approach
for mapping woody plants in the southwestern United States using NASA Earth Observing
System Data was recently selected for funding by NASA. We are looking for two
exceptional graduate students to work on this project during two summer months over
three years (2008-2010). The work will involve expansion of a data base of validation data
derived from hyperspatial remote sensing imagery from the IKONOS and QuickBird satellites,
plus data from the SWReGAP data base and other sources. Applicants should ideally have an
interest in ecological applications of remote sensing and a good working knowledge of GIS
and image processing software and techniques (ERDAS Imagine/ENVI, ArcView/ArcGIS).
Computer programming skills (C, Fortran, IDL, MatLab) and experience working under the
