Tectonics: course notes from the Univ of Nevada-Reno

Grand Tetons, Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming
A combination of recent (in the last few millions years)
tectonic uplift and glacial erosion have left the Tetons in their present
magnificent form. Glaciers
have sculpted the peaks and carved U-shaped valleys.
A glaciated valley is visible on the left in this view. Extensive
glaciers have now receded since the end of the last Ice Age (~10,000 years
ago). [Photo credit: John Lockridge, plockridge@mho.net.]
