Text Book: "Chemistry", Sixth Edition" by Zumdahl & Zumdahl (Houghten-Mifflin 2003). The text is most useful if you read each topic before the lecture

Supplementary Course Materials: Saftey Glasses are required to work in the Laboratory. They may be purchased at the University Bookstore. The Chemistry Computer Lab in RI-365 is available for student use. Twelve PC's are available with a wide variety of software specialized for use by chemists, including Spartan, Gaussian, HyperChem, ChemSite, JUMP, ChemDraw, and many others.

Course Requirements:

Four exams worth 75%
Laboratory assignments worth 25%
Various graded homework assignments and/or quizes may be added

  4. Types of Chemical Reactions and Solution Stoichiometry (Chapter 4)

  6. Energy and Chemical Reactions (Chapter 6)
  7. Atomic Structure (Chapter 7)
  8. Descriptive Chemistry (Chapter 2, Sections 2.7 & 2.8, Chapter 4, Section 4.9)
  9. Chemical Bonding (Chapter 8)
  10. Covalent Bonding Models (Chapter 9)
