1. B.S. in Chemistry with ACS Certification
In addition to taking the course requirements for the chemistry major program, a student who wishes to fulfill the requirements for certification the the ACS must complete additional courseworkm, as specified in the current University catalog (see ACS Certification).
2. Cooperative Education Program in Chemistry
In the junior or senior year the chemistry major may elect to participate in a six month, salaried coop experience in the chemical industry. The work period spans either summer and fall or spring and summer. The student receives eight (8) hours of free elective credit while working full-time in industry. Interested students should contact the department chairman for further information.
3. Undergraduate Research Program in Chemistry
Junior or senior chemistry majors interested in chemical research are invited and encouraged to inquire into the research opportunities available to them in the department through independent research with individual faculty members. Interested students should contact the department chairman for further information.
4. Teacher Certification in Physical Science
In addition to completing the requirements for the chemistry major, students must be admitted to the Teacher Education program and follow the professional sequence requirements.
5. Honors Program in Chemistry
Chemistry majors can apply for admission to the department’s honors program during the sophomore or junior year. If accepted, students must then complete the Honors Seminar and Honors Thesis courses.
