Mission Statement

In reflection of the larger mission of Montclair State University and the College of Science and Mathematics, the Department of Biology and Molecular Biology strives to foster in developing life scientists the ability to critically examine information and discover new knowledge through rigorous scientific reasoning. Through research and writing intensive experiences in the classroom and laboratory, students of the biological sciences develop the practical and intellectual skills to succeed in rewarding careers and become productive members of society. The Department of Biology and Molecular Biology offers general education courses and multiple major degree programs and concentrations at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. These programs are designed and implemented to promote educational equity and academic excellence through close interactions between faculty and students in the classroom, the research laboratory and in the field. As with the larger mission of the University and College, the Department of Biology and Molecular Biology seeks to develop and support appropriate activities and programs serving the best interests of the region.
