3rd Annual Passaic River Paddle Relay!  Saturday, May 12, 2007, which started at the Nereid Boat Club in Rutherford and ended in Riverbank Park in Newark

For those of you that participated in the last year's Paddle Relay, this year the race will follow the same course as last year with a few small changes.  As with last year the course will be 8 miles long divided into three legs; teams will consist of six (6) paddlers, with two (2) paddlers per canoe each leg.  There will also be an individual kayak portion of the race.   
      After the race, competitors and spectators are welcome to stay and enjoy “Art and Music in the Park”, the 100th anniversary celebration of Riverbank Park in partnership with SPARK Friends of Riverbank Park, which begins at 10:00am at Riverbank Park in Newark.  The celebration will feature the Paddle awards ceremony, live music, dance performances and art displays from local Ironbound residents, along with animals from the Turtleback Zoo, educational activities, face painting, food and much more.
     Paddlers of all skill levels are invited to participate in the event.  We are planning a training day for less experienced paddlers a few weeks before the event.

This enlightening presentation will be delivered by Nina Zinn, Rutgers University Research Associate from the Cook College Department of Environmental Planning and Design.  Nina will present the history of green roofing, provide examples worldwide, share her research, as well as explain the elements of a green roof system and discuss its benefits. Fee $7 for adults and free for Rutgers Master Gardeners of Essex County (a small donation is appreciated).

Watershed Watch Network Rapid Bioassessment Training

Description:
Biological assessments is an evaluation of the condition of a waterbody using biological surveys and other direct measurements of the resident biota in surface waters. The purpose of this training is to demonstrate a practical technical reference for conducting cost-effective biological assessments in your watershed. Registration is free! Bring your own lunch and drink.

Description:        The Lower Passaic and Saddle River Alliance will host teams of canoe and kayak racers on a 12 mile stretch of the Passaic River. The race will stretch from Roseland to Paterson on the mighty Passaic River. Bring your family and friends to the Essex County Environmental Center in Roseland at 9:00 am to watch the start of the race and attend a watershed festival!  Enjoy the finish line festivities and watershed festival at  West Side Park in Paterson at 2:00 pm!
